Questions and answers
Mesa means table I believe. It's where an upper layer of rock is eroded around the edges, leaving a table-like structure.

The Puebloans were at one time hunter-gatherers, but then settled into farming atop the mesas.

Don't know about Cortez.

The national parks are distinct and do not touch, but Canyonlands and Arches are just 30 miles apart.

Back in contact
I felt quite bereft at not having your diary to read each night. Glad you are safe and well.
Stunning scenery!!!! and it is nice to see you in some of the photos.
Questions:
What does mesa mean?
Where the mesa people farmers (corn grinders would suggest they were) so where did they grow the corn?
Is Cortez named after the Spanish explorer and if so when did he explore this part of America?
Do the National Parks merge?
The landscape is treal Geography text book stuff. I know I would love it there.Much love Mum x x x

Hello!
Hey Dan,
Sounds like your having an amazing time! Look forward to hearing about it when you get back - you've definately made the most of your time in America!! Are you going to give Courtney a call when you reach Vancouver? Enjoy the rest of your trip I'm very jealous - the novelty of being back home has warn off a bit now - I'm in desparate need of some sun!!

Re: Global Warming
Dan:

Q: Was there any mention of historical sunspot trends in their global warming lecture? I'd be curious.

Mesa Verde NP is an excellent place, and makes me wonder if climate change hasn't always been an issue in our world. I was soundly criticized for going to Four Corners, until we saw the "Shiprock" which was very interesting, albeit brief. I also noticed a severe economic condition for the locals there, I'd like to hear your general comments on our treatment (past and present) of the natives that still live in that area today.
