Panama canal painting, Representatives House, Madison, WI
One of the few paintings whose symbolism is easy to see. In the middle we have the marriage of the green bride (the Pacific) to the blue groom (the Atlanta). The children at the bottom are the young United States. On the right the goddess of peace is inviting the old powers (France, Germany and Briatin) to join the celebration. On the left the god of commerce is inviting the Pacific powers (China, Japan and the Polynesian states) to trade.
